We were the royalty of Alaska,
our thick coats blended with our forests.
The overlords of the tundra,
our vassals eyed us warily.
Our children pranced across the rocks,
swatting at butterflies and suicidal lemmings.
We sang our songs, high and low,
across the expanse of our kingdom.

A signing of a paper, a hollar of sick joy,
the ring of gunshots.
The agonized screams of our children,
pouring their royal blood onto the snow.
The old hid and lived on, watching
the massacre of our people.
The roar of the metal birds,
whirring overhead.
It was the sound of our deaths,
the prologue to the gunshot.
We were the prey, tenfold,
of what our prey were to us.
Mercy came only to those few,
whose hearts burst before the shot.

All at once the gunshots will cease,
the metal birds gone from the sky.
By then our songs will have faded to oblivion,
our children gone from our dens.
Our vassals will roam without the proper fear,
their numbers will increase, unchecked,
and we will be nothing more than the childrens' tender dreams,
us
the forgotten dynasty.

a blank verse poem i did for my poetry notebook in Honors English 10. basically it's a "protest" poem, going from the wolves in their revered days to now, being shot down like cattle, run to their deaths. i imagine that only the old and wise wolves have the brains enough to know how to hide, but i can't see them going on much longer.
the poem transitions to what things will be if the slaughter isn't stopped. the notion was inspired by Wolf's Rain, where they believe that all wolves are nothing but a memory.

instead of just copy and pasting it into the notebook, i'm turning this into a graphic novel form. likely no more than 4-5 pages, but this should be fun. and i will post them as i go along.

expect tons more art from me this weekend, i've got a lot of drawing to do for this notebook XP
